Family And Medical Leave Act

The Family and Medical Leave Act permits employees, who are eligible for FMLA, to take up to 12 weeks of leave per year for certain medical conditions without fear of losing their jobs or benefits. Eligible Medical Conditions include birth or adoption of a child or for a serious health condition of the employee, employee's child, spouse or parent.

If you are absent from work for more than 3 consecutive days for an FMLA condition you should apply, even if you have not exhausted all of your approved leave or sick leave. To be eligible for coverage you must be in a permanent position for at least 12 months, having worked 1040 hours (half-time) during the previous 12-month period, at the time of the request.

This program does not cover temporary employees unless their employment time has exceeded 12 months, and they meet other eligibility requirements.
